PORTAL Research Study

Patient Outcome Reporting Tool for Emergency MedicAL Services (PORTAL)

PORTAL is an NIH-funded study to develop and deliver prehospital feedback on the care and outcomes for patients with suspected Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS).

Why was PORTAL created?

The nature of prehospital work can make it challenging for providers to know what happens to their patients. As a result, valuable insight into practice patterns and opportunities for feedback are unfortunately lost.

Our team wanted to create an easier way for EMS providers to automatically receive information about their patient's outcomes reports, giving providers the opportunity to learn from their practices.

Watch the video to get an overview of how PORTAL works.

Why Report Outcomes on Patients with Possible ACS?

The American Heart Association (AHA) Mission: Lifeline recommends early electrocardiograms (ECGs) in the prehospital setting; early ECGs and prehospital notifications are associated with an improved patient mortality rate for ACS patients.

EMS providers rarely receive feedback on the care provided and the outcomes of their patients.

Benefits of PORTAL
