Enhancing the quality, efficiency and cost-effectiveness of unplanned care
This new initiative’s goal will be to enhance the quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness of unplanned care, which is medical care that arises from unexpected health issues requiring immediate or urgent attention.
Unplanned care can occur in the prehospital environment, emergency department, retail and walk in clinics, and urgent primary care and continue into the inpatient settings.
The Program in Unplanned Care’s vision is to work collaboratively across clinical and methodological disciplines to apply a systems perspective to research, quality improvement, and workforce development promoting equitable care delivery across unplanned care settings.
This vision will be achieved through an interdisciplinary approach that combines operations research, systems science, implementation science, qualitative research, and biomedical informatics.
