Dr. Jin Han

Jin Han, MD, MSc, is a Professor with the Department of Emergency Medicine at Vanderbilt Health. In addition to his clinical responsibilities in the emergency department, he has been very active in patient-oriented research. His research focus is on delirium and investigating how acute illness affects cognitive aging. He has developed and validated several brief delirium assessments for the emergency department setting and examined how delirium in the ED affects long-term outcomes.

Within Vanderbilt Health, he serves as the Executive Member of the Critical Illness, Brain Dysfunction, and Survivorship (CIBS) Center and a faculty member of the Center for Emergency Research and Innovation (CERI). He is also part of the Geriatric Research, Education, and Clinical Care (GRECC) in the Tennessee Valley Health Care System.

Dr. Han has received funding from the Emergency Medicine Foundation and the National Institute of Health. He is currently the Principal Investigator of a National Institute on Aging R01, which is evaluating how serum concentrations of psychoactive medications affect delirium duration and 12-month global cognition in older hospitalized adults. He is also the Co-Principal Investigator of a Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) award. This award is a multi-center randomized trial comparing ketamine vs. etomidate’s effect on mortality and post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms in ED and ICU patients who are emergently intubated. He recently received funding from the Veterans Health Administration to use artificial intelligence to detect delirium in the emergency department.

Dr. Han completed his emergency medicine residency at the University of Cincinnati and also served as chief resident. He completed a research fellowship and obtained a Master of Science in Clinical Epidemiology.

Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and three kids, watching his kids dance and play volleyball, cooking, grilling on the Big Green Egg, and rooting for the New York Giants.
