Amanda Smith, MD, MS, is Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine and director of Undergraduate Medical Education in the Department of Emergency Medicine. She has practiced in a variety of both academic and community settings and is passionate about undergraduate and graduate medical education, wellness and mentorship.
She was born in Newburyport, Massachusetts, but spent most of her childhood in Montgomery, Alabama. She attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) for her undergraduate training and obtained a masters of science in biotechnology before completing medical school at UAB in 2018. She went on to complete emergency medicine residency training at UAB in 2021, receiving the David Andretti Memorial Award for compassionate patient care and her focus on resident and staff wellness. Dr. Smith was hired as faculty at UAB in 2021 before transitioning to Vanderbilt in 2022.
In her personal life, she enjoys traveling, live music, pilates, and spending time with her husband Doug and cat Bug.
