Why did you choose VUMC Emergency Medicine: When I began my residency search, I knew I was looking for three things: a program with a genuinely supportive culture, the resources to pursue whatever interests I developed within emergency medicine, and a city where my wife and I could build a life together. Vanderbilt quickly stood out because it offered all those qualities. From my first interactions with the faculty and residents, it was clear that the program fosters a collaborative environment where leadership is approachable, invested in resident success, and committed to recruiting outstanding people who support one another both inside and outside the emergency department. The breadth of clinical training, mentorship, and research opportunities provides the flexibility to explore any career path within emergency medicine, and Nashville has been an incredible place for my wife and me to call home. Looking back, Vanderbilt has exceeded every expectation I had, and I truly cannot imagine a better place to train.
Interests in emergency medicine: Geriatric emergency medicine, palliative care, medical education.
Five-year plan: In five years, I hope to be practicing at a large community or academic medical center where I can continue to grow as an emergency physician. Exactly what that path looks like will depend on where my wife and I are in our lives, but I also hope to be deciding whether pursuing fellowship training is the right next step!
If not EM, what? I would have loved to be a teacher of some kind. I love education in general so if medicine never worked out, I would have been very content helping our future generation!
Hobbies: I am a sports fanatic; I am a die-hard Baltimore Ravens and Washington Wizards fan. My wife and I love to go to the gym, play volleyball, basketball, and many other sports. We also love trying new restaurants as well as watching new movies and TV shows.
Random fact about me: My dad spelled my first and last name wrong on my birth certificate! We never changed it and doubled down so my brother and I have the same last name!
