Blake Shultz, MD, JD, is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine and Health Policy at Vanderbilt University Hospital, as well as the Nashville VA Medical Center. He is broadly interested in the many intersections between law and clinical practice, and particularly in medical debt, mental health and substance use, and building medical-legal partnerships. 

He grew up in Lancaster, Ohio and Grand Haven, Mich., and earned his medical degree from Yale School of Medicine with a brief hiatus to attend Yale Law School. He is a bar-licensed attorney in Massachusetts, where he completed his residency at the Harvard Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency at Mass General Brigham. He has served as an advisor to presidential, gubernatorial, and mayoral campaigns on health policy, and has held both federal and state policy roles. 

In his free time, he loves music and cooking, spending time with his dog, Lily, and competing in triathlons.
