Why VUMC EM: Ultimately, I think my away rotation at Vanderbilt really sealed the deal for me! While I was here, I couldn’t help but be impressed by the family-oriented and teamwork-based culture maintained by all members of the emergency department, as well as by the acuity that comes with being at a quaternary care center. A mix of great people, interesting patients, and a supportive environment for residency was exactly what I was looking for, and I found it at Vanderbilt.

Interests in emergency medicine: Ultrasound, critical care, addiction, medicine, EMS

Five-year plan: Right now, I am excited to explore all the options that come with a career in Emergency Medicine. I can see a world where I pursue fellowships in any of my clinical interests followed by a career in academics, and I can also see a world where I work in the community at a critical access hospital.

If not EM, then what? I would have wanted to either run an apple orchard in New England or be a wooden boat builder.

Hobbies: Hiking, camping, reading, parentheses sci-fi and fantasy, and parentheses, wood carving, woodworking, and I just bought a mountain bike at the start of residency!

Fun fact: I built a boat during my gap year between undergrad and medical school.
