Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine
Dr. Christine Prochnow

Christine Prochnow, MD, is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC). Her academic interests include point-of-care ultrasound, ultrasound quality improvement and educating the next generation of medical professionals.

Her journey into medicine was inspired by her introduction to emergency medical services and prehospital medicine through her firefighter father and began in earnest during her time as an emergency room scribe. A California native, Dr. Prochnow earned her biology degree with a minor in Classical Studies from Santa Clara University in 2012. She completed a premedical post-baccalaureate program at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) and obtained her medical degree from UCSD as well. Her professional training culminated at VUMC, where she completed an emergency medicine residency in 2023 and then an advanced emergency ultrasound fellowship in 2024.

Beyond her career in medicine, she is an avid hiker, food enthusiast, and "adult-onset" boulderer. Outside the emergency department, you will find her exploring scenic trails, at the climbing gym, or discovering local restaurants and coffee shops.
