MD

James Jordano, MD, is a clinical instructor with the Department of Emergency Medicine at Vanderbilt Health and a Veterans Affairs Quality Scholar at the Tennessee Valley Health System Veterans Affairs Hospital. He graduated from Emory University in 2019 with a Bachelor of Science, with summa cum laude designation. He went on to study at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, graduating with his medical degree in 2023. Before staying on as faculty, he completed his Emergency Medicine residency at Vanderbilt. During this time, he served as a chief resident and received multiple accolades, including the CORD Resident Academic Achievement Award, VUSM’s J. William Hillman Award, multiple departmental awards, and an Emergency Medicine Foundation Resident Research Grant. 

His current research lies at the intersection of emergency care, artificial intelligence, and quality improvement. He investigates how LLMs can improve patient safety through antibiotic stewardship and clinician decision-making. He strives to study how AI tools can be evaluated, integrated into workflows, and monitored to bolster clinical judgment and improve care delivery. 

Outside of medicine, he enjoys spending time with his wife, rooting for the Cincinnati Bengals, fishing, volunteering at the Nashville Zoo, and relaxing with his cat and dog, Fig Blossom and River.
