MD
A native of Richmond, Virginia, Marie Kuzemchak Patten, MD, came to Nashville for medical school in 2016 after earning her BA in French and Italian languages and literature from Washington University in Saint Louis.
She spent a year doing research with the Center for Biomedical Ethics and Society before graduating with her MD from Vanderbilt in 2021. She then completed emergency medicine residency at Vanderbilt following initial training in general surgery. Postgraduation, Dr. Kuzemchak joined faculty, dividing her time between Vanderbilt's primary and regional hospitals. She sustains strong academic interests in education, ethics, and patient and provider experience and has published on shared decision making, clinical communication, medical burnout, and trauma and transplant ethics.
She met her husband in Nashville and they now have two children and a white German Shepherd.
