Why I chose VUMC EM: I was drawn to the VUMC emergency medicine program initially because of their emphasis on high-quality didactics and on producing clinically excellent emergency physicians who can thrive in any practice environment after graduation. The culture of the program, the supportive leadership team, and the camaraderie amongst the co-residents all confirmed that this is where I wanted to complete my EM training. Training at a place with a culture of excellence where everyone you work alongside in the ED cares about getting even the smallest of details right for their patients is a dream come true for me!
Five-year plan: In five years, I plan to either be completing a critical-care fellowship or working in the ED in rural Missouri, where I grew up.
If not EM, what? If I was still in medicine, I probably would be working in internal medicine/critical care or trauma surgery. If I was not still in medicine, I would probably be a heavy equipment operator.
Hobbies: Working out, watching TV shows with my wife, hiking and DIY vehicle repairs (with variable success)
Random fact about me: My high school graduating class in Missouri had eight students in it, including myself.
