Rob Ferre

Rob Ferre, MD, FACEP, is Professor of Emergency Medicine and Vice Chair of Education in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Vanderbilt Health. Internationally recognized for advancing the education, governance, and clinical integration of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS), Dr. Ferre is an award-winning educator, innovator, and national leader who has taught thousands of students, residents, and faculty to perform and incorporate POCUS into clinical practice. A self-described "POCUS evangelist," Dr. Ferre collaborates with health systems and national organizations to advance the education, governance, and clinical integration of POCUS. 

After serving two tours in Iraq with the United States Air Force, Dr. Ferre joined the faculty at Vanderbilt and established the Advanced Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship and founded the Emergency Ultrasound Division. In 2019, he moved to Indiana University, where he developed a comprehensive four-year integrated POCUS curriculum for medical students, built a statewide ecosystem of POCUS education for students, residents, and faculty, established a health system-wide POCUS governance structure, and led implementation of standardized POCUS workflows across the 16-hospital IU Health system. In 2026, he returned to Vanderbilt as Vice Chair of Education to build on the department's world-renowned tradition of excellence in emergency medicine education. 

Dr. Ferre is an international leader in POCUS workflows and has led the effort for POCUS workflow standardization through collaboration between the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) and Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE). He has held several national leadership positions including as Chair of the ACEP Emergency Ultrasound Section and a member of the Board of Directors for the Society of Clinical Ultrasound Fellowships (SCUF). 

Outside of medicine, he enjoys spending time with his wife and four children, especially exploring museums, attending ballet performances, and, whenever possible, kayaking and fishing.
